hotel daphne
At the corner of Ashland Avenue and West 20th St., the Hotel Daphne strikes a pose. At five stories high, the Daphne neither shrinks to the taller structures to the south nor overwhelms its residential neighbors. The fresh, white-painted brick hotel draws its architectural cues from older commercial buildings in the area, evident in its stepped parapets, multi-paned windows, and light industrial impression. With large heritage oak trees as a foil, the building embraces two entry courts: one to the west and one to the south, with the cloistered south-entry court echoing a landscaped sanctuary.
